~ a brief strategy for gaining true riches ~

The earth is the Lord’s,
and everything in it.
The world and all its people
belong to him.
Psalm 24:1 NLT
Some people give much
but get back even more.
Others don’t give what they should
and end up poor.
Whoever gives to others
will get richer;
those who help others
will themselves be helped.
Proverbs 11:24-25 NCV

Everything in this world will be tested by fire.
The trappings of materialism and their attending wealth
will be completely destroyed.
When we die, there is no earthly acquisition we can take with us.
Father, I want to leave a legacy that will continue
to touch the world and influence lives
long after I take my final breath.
I do not seek to store up any eternal treasure,
but only to be in Your Presence throughout all time without end.
You have saturated my life with blessings,
in return I want to spend myself in influencing vast, innumerable multitudes
to lavish upon You the love You so desire and deserve.
Help me to not be entangled by the things of this life ~
the pursuit of material wealth and its fleeting earthly pleasure,
but may I honor and serve You faithfully,
giving everything I have and everything I am
for the advancement of Your glorious Kingdom and fame.
For this cause may I live and breathe and die…

covetousness ~ greed is destroying families and nations. People have exchanged true treasures ~ children and relationships ~ to spend their energies acquiring material glitter that will be destroyed when tested by fire.
Finances are a primary cause of divorce, depression, and suicide.
No material obsession can possibly satisfy.
Please break the strongholds of this tragic bondage over human souls – release them from this tyranny that seeks to destroy them. Move them to invest in treasures that will last throughout Eternity. May all remember that our children are a treasure from the Lord (Ps. 127:3), and that if we must give an account before You for every idle word we speak (Matt. 12:36), surely we will have to give an account for how we’ve handled the stewardship of our children, Your children.
Every relationship we have, even those that are painful, is a special assignment from You. May we guard these precious treasures with our very lives.

(Inspired by 1 Timothy 6)

please quicken me to choose Your teachings over the finest riches of this world.
Your wisdom is a far greater treasure than the most exquisite jewels. Absolutely nothing I could ever desire is equal to it.
(Inspired by Proverbs 8:3)

As the woman who poured costly ointment from her alabaster box to anoint Jesus, bathing His Feet with her tears, I want my faith and love to be saturated with such extreme extravagance. I want to pour myself out - all of who I am and everything you give me to show my profound gratitude for all You've done and my extreme reverence for all that You Are.
I want to let go of “things” so that I can embrace all You want to do in me and through me. I don’t want to waste precious moments ministering to material obsessions, but rather spend myself and all that You give me to strengthen and encourage the church and rescue the sheep You so desperately desire, fully trusting You to meet every need.
Please grant me wisdom and discernment so that I manage everything You provide in a manner that will bring You great honor and joy and fame.
(Inspired by Matthew 26, Mark 12, Matthew 6)

"I have rejoiced in your laws as much as in riches…
Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money!
Turn my eyes from worthless things,
and give me life through your word…
Your instructions are more valuable to me than millions
in gold and silver…
Your eternal word, O Lord, stands firm in heaven.
Your faithfulness extends to every generation,
as enduring as the earth you created…
Your regulations remain true to this day,
for everything serves your plans…
Your laws are my treasure; they are my heart’s delight…
Truly, I love your commands  more than gold, even the finest gold…
The teaching of your word gives light,
so even the simple can understand.
I pant with expectation, longing for your commands…
Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil…
Rivers of tears gush from my eyes
because people disobey your instructions.
O Lord, you are righteous, and your regulations are fair.
Your laws are perfect and completely trustworthy…
Your justice is eternal, and your instructions are perfectly true.
As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in your commands…
The very essence of your words is truth;
all your just regulations will stand forever…
I rejoice in your word like one who discovers a great treasure."
Psalm 119:14, 36, 37, 72, 89, 90, 91, 111, 127,
130, 131, 133, 136, 137, 138, 142, 143, 160, 162 NLT

Whenever I see someone needing help please grant me a heart that  longs to respond with the resources You’ve given me. You’ve warned Your children to not harden our hearts, to never look away but willingly meet the needs of those You place within our pathway. Help us to guard against any “wicked thought” - making excuses to avoid assisting them, as he or she may cry out against us for our sin. May we give cheerfully, knowing that if we do, You will command a blessing upon us in everything we put our hands and hearts to do. You’ve repeatedly reminded us that there will always be poor among us, therefore, may we be obedient to Your command, “You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy, in your land.”
Nothing belongs to us; it all belongs to You. May all that we are and all that You’ve given us be spent freely for Your honor and glory, O God!

(Inspired by Deuteronomy 15:7-11)

Father Lord,
please reign over every decision that I make. May I feel Your Presence and the quickening of Your Holy Spirit as I walk through the course of each day, for every choice bears many consequences for me, my family, and others.
Grant me wisdom in handling the resources You give me. May each transaction not be selfishly squandered that I may lavishly bless those who are less fortunate, or that I may more faithfully contribute to Your activities – ministries within my church or around the world.
I want desperately to be a wise steward. As I consider how to spend the moments of each day may I be quick to remember that my time here is very brief, and once spent, a moment can never be relived. May I be faithfully moved to invest in my experience with You and the people around me so that my life is not squandered.
No material obsession can satisfy my greatest human need nor can it be carried with me when I die. May I see every aspect of my life as a ministry opportunity, and so guide my decisions according to Your design and desire for my life.
May my choices honor and bless You, my Father, my Savior, my Friend...

Do you want to be wealthy?
The process is not a secret.
“Bring the whole tithe
into the storehouse,
that there may be food
in my house.
Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty,
"and see if I will not throw open
the floodgates of heaven
and pour out so much blessing
that you will not have room enough for it.”
Malachi 3:10 NIV
 Honor God with everything you own;
give him the first and the best.
Proverbs 3:9 The Message
Owe nothing to anyone—except for
your obligation to love one another.
If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill
the requirements of God’s law.
Romans 13:8 NLT
Whoever is kind to the poor
is lending to the LORD—
the benefit of his gift
will return to him in abundance.
Proverbs 19:17 ISV
Don't be obsessed with getting
more material things.
Be relaxed with what you have.
Since God assured us,
"I'll never let you down,
never walk off and leave you."
Hebrews 13:5 The Message
For the love of money
is a root of all kinds of evil.
Some people, eager for money,
have wandered from the faith
and pierced themselves
with many griefs.
I Timothy 6:10 NIV
Who pierced them with grief?

God has much more to share with us.
We give our time, energy, and financial resources to those things that mean the most to us. They are the evidence of our adoration. Jesus said that we cannot serve God and the things of this world (Matt. 6; Luke 16).
Short Study: New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs, highlighting every verse on the topic of money. Deuteronomy is also an excellent resource. Here, we are also warned not to charge interest.
