Toys, they're a child's toolbox. If you're having problems with a child's behavior, ask God to help you weed out movies, music, books, toys, and activities that may be marked by superstition, immorality, or any form of darkness. Note how many references to other gods or double entendre mark almost every popular children's movie. Because our battle is not against flesh and blood, it's also necessary to consider what we watch, what we read, sites we visit on the Internet, etc. We may guard our activities around our kids, but even when they're not present, a gate is opened to a spiritual dynamic - a power that cannot be bound by physical barriers - that is unleashed to influence our children. We must be serious about this, vigilant; because satan stalks like a roaring lion seeking those he may devour. Look around you. *he is highly successful. We must resist him, without wavering in our faith (1 Pet. 5:8-9).

*I never capitalize satan or his pronouns, even when they begin a sentence. he is a detestable, improper, lower-case creature.

When watching the erratic behavior of a ball in motion, I may pray,
May our children never be driven here and there
chasing after various winds of doctrine,
deceived by those who do not know Truth,
but may they clearly comprehend Truth
and speak it faithfully in love,
growing up in every aspect into Him
who is the head of the church,
even Christ (Eph. 4:14-15).
We cannot know what the future holds, but we know Who holds our future. In equipping our children for life, we can pray,
when they pass through the waters, pressing circumstances,
may our children clearly comprehend Your comforting Presence
walking with them, even carrying them.
May they understand that rivers of difficult experiences
will not overflow them.
And when they walk through the fires of testing or persecution,
may they firmly cling to the knowledge
that You are faithful, and they cannot be destroyed (Isaiah 43:2).
You can't start too early with this one...
within the realm of their teen years,
may our children exercise great caution
as they take on responsibilities such as driving.
May they recognize that they are responsible
for the safety of others.
And help me, by my actions and words,
to be an example in every way.
May I not do or say anything that will cause them to stumble,
or cause them any future injury or emotional pain.

Matthew & Kristina's daughter
Melissa Ann ~ the day she got her permit.
It was not in her birthday month.
We waited until we felt she was ready for the responsibility.
May our children's lives be built upon a firm foundation,
established on the Rock that is Christ Jesus.
May they be immovable, always working with excellence
to build up the Kingdom of God.
May they enjoy a passion for
putting broken hearts and minds and lives back together,
serving as Your Hands and Your Feet
to make others strong.
May our children live their lives as servants and friends
to You and the watching world.
May they speak Your Word with all confidence
as You extend Your holy Hand to heal hearts, minds, and bodies,
executing signs and wonders
through these children for Your honor and glory.
Whenever they pray, may demonic strongholds be shaken
and crumble and fall...
Let there be miracles in them and through them,
these, Your children, we fervently pray (Acts 4:29-31)...
Ask your child what they're thinking about as they play with a doll. How can we direct their thoughts to prayer? Prayers for family or friends, children at church or school, children throughout the world?
Adult prayer thoughts,
May the hearts of parents be turned toward their children
and the hearts of children toward their parents (Mal. 4:6)...
May our sons and daughters share the love of Christ
with their children...
May their children respond with reverent wonder.
May our sons and daughters have vast multitudes
of spiritual children -
those they influence to love and follow Christ.
And we can pray for children who are verbally, physically, or sexually abused... For those who have no mother praying for them... For all women who are pregnant...
Child prayer inspirations,
Suggest to your child that they pray for children throughout the world whenever they see a doll. Create special, personal inspirations that incline their hearts to prayer.
For special blessings to farmers and their families... That Christians look at the fields that are ready to harvest and labor for the expansion of our Father's Eternal Kingdom (John 4:34-38)... That every sower and every seed and every heart into which the Word is sown each day be protected from the devil who strives to quickly remove them... May each seed take root and bear fruit that cannot be humanly measured (Luke 8:11-15)...
Let's teach our children to faithfully pray for the spiritual and physical protection of those who protect our lives and property.
The kids had a crib fish toy.
May our children desperately long to be
fishers of men,
willing to lay down their nets
and lay down their lives
to follow You
wherever You may lead (Matt. 4:19).
when competing with others,
may our children do so with integrity.
May their greatest competition be against themselves,
always striving to do everything they undertake
with increasing excellence
and all for Your honor and glory and praise.
May our children look up to You in all things,
setting their sights on the incredible treasures and joys
of heaven where Christ sits enthroned
beside Father God
in a distinct place of phenomenal, Eternal honor and power.
May heaven fill their thoughts.
When the world seems to rock, may they not be shaken,
but walk steadfastly with You through every situation
that befalls the earth.
May they daily recognize that this world is not their home,
but that their real life is in heaven with our King and our God (Col. 3:1-3).
That our families not trust in skills, experience, money, strength, government. but rather put their trust and make their boast in the Name of the Lord our God (Ps. 20:7)...
The boys...
This squeaky horse toy was mine in the late 1950s.
may our children always be willing to
pour themselves out as a drink offering,
serving You by meeting the needs of their families,
and leading their children
to meet the needs of the hungry and oppressed
so that their light will rise in the darkness...
And when circumstantial darkness closes in,
may their hearts and their hope continue to shine
as though it is noon (Is. 58:10)...
I’m thanking you, God, out loud in the streets,
singing your praises in town and country.
The deeper your love, the higher it goes;
every cloud is a flag to your faithfulness.
Soar high in the skies, O God!
Cover the whole earth with your glory!
Psalm 57:9-11 The Message
plant songs in the hearts of Your children,
songs in the day, songs in the night.
When they are happy,
let their hearts dance with Your music,
dance in Your Love.
And when they are in despair,
as dark times surely come to all,
let their hearts wait with joy in Your music,
wait in Your Faithfulness,
rest and meditate, Selah, on and in Your Love.
May the music of their surrendered lives
lead vast multitudes into Your glorious Eternal Presence.
May love be our children's greatest aim.
Yet we also ask for extraordinary talents
and hearts that walk with determined excellence.
We ask that their spiritual gifts be recognized
and exercised with great reverent humility.
We ask for the gift of authentic, Biblical prophetic understanding
with the ability to share the Truth of God (1 Cor. 14:1).
Father, may my children and their friends
commit every piece of their lives and hearts to You
that You may order each according to Your sovereign Will.
That we flee from every form of temptation, just as we would flee from a snake (1 Thess. 5:22)...
"The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.
The grace of our LORD Jesus be with you."
Romans 16:20 HCSB
In this world we are as sheep among wolves.
Help us to be shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.
Holy Spirit, anoint and empower us for the task of
fulfilling The Great Commission.
Strengthen us to face any persecution in a manner
that will turn multitudes of hearts to You (Matt. 10:26)...
How precious also are Your thoughts to me,
O God! How great is the sum of them!
If I should count them,
they would be more in number than the sand...
Psalm 139:17-18 NKJV
Father, for Your great honor and fame we pray...
The earth is filled with people who desperately need to know You.
May we be faithful to obey Your Truth
and all that You deposit within our hearts
so that our prayers and faith-filled actions secure a spiritual blessing
as that of Abraham,
a blessing upon our spiritual seed and spiritual offspring ~
may they be as the stars of the heavens
and the sand on the seashore.
And may these, with great urgency in these Last Days
powerfully advance Your Kingdom,
possessing the gates of the enemy (Gen. 22)...
Give your children or grandchildren a toy sheep, teaching them the sheep prayer - that they faithfully hear the Good Shepherd's Voice, deaf to the voice of the enemy who comes to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10). I also give sheep to parents of newborns so that as they tuck their babies into bed, they're reminded to ask God to give their children dreams and visions - to speak to them, even as they sleep. If they're not Christians, I give them anyway, praying for hearts inside the homes of all people to whom I give a sheep.

It's important to always remember to pray for the physical, spiritual, and emotional protection of those in the military and their families, and for all who risk their lives to protect us.
We need to pray that vast, innumerable multitudes throughout the world fight the good fight and take hold of eternal life (1 Tim. 6:12)...
may our children, family, friends, church
be willing to endure suffering as good soldiers of Christ Jesus,
not entangled in the distractions of this temporary life,
but rather live with selfless urgency
to fulfill The Great Commission,
seeking to please and honor God who
equipped, anointed, and commissioned us all to fight
in this great spiritual battle
in such a time as this (2 Tim. 2:3-4)...
May our children long for and take delight in Your Presence.
Saturate them with Your Love.
Saturate them with passion for You.
Saturate them with passion for Your Word.
Saturate them with passion for Your Wisdom.
Saturate them with passion for Your Will.
Saturate them with passion for the lost and hurting in Your World.
Saturate them with passion for holiness.
And saturate them with a passion for excellence
in everything they undertake to do.
How the years fly - Kristina and me in a pool filled with bubbles.
Matthew & Kristina's third child below.
Aren't they adorable?
They inspire me to pray for the children in my immediate and extended family - that they have the fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5:22-23).
And prayers for children throughout the world who need comfort from painful family issues, those battling diseases, those who have no homes or families, those forced into sex or human trafficking, those persecuted for their faith... Their needs are so great, we must remember to pray for the least of these as frequently as possible. And if we don't, who will?

May our children and their children
be strong and very courageous,
faithfully executing all that You command,
not turning to the right or left, so that
they may be successful wherever they go (Josh. 1:7).
May they trust in their Lord with all their hearts,
leaning not on their own understanding.
In all their ways may they acknowledge You,
confident that You are steadily directing their paths (Prov. 3:5-6).

When Melissa Ann was young, she sent her favorite stuffed white tiger, Grace, with me when I attended writing conferences. I put Grace in a pocket on my satchel so that she was visible while walking through airports or attending lectures. It was impossible to be distracted from my responsibility to guard her through prayer.
